SASE, or Secure Access Service Edge, is one of the latest examples. Everyone says their platform is unified, yet the real question is not who talks the loudest about convergence, but who has actually built it.
Fortinet consistently stands on the answering side of that question. Over the past several months, the company has expanded its Unified SASE platform through innovations in AI driven security, autonomous operations, digital experience convergence, and deployment flexibility, all built on the same core strength that has set it apart from the start: seamless integration between networking and security within a single operating system.

Most single vendor SASE solutions are not truly integrated at the architectural level. They are often assembled through acquisition rather than built as one cohesive system. Cloud first SASE vendors assume data can safely travel through a global point of presence network, an assumption that no longer holds for many regulated organizations. Fortinet addresses this with SASE Outpost, which extends enforcement directly into on-premises or colocation environments, and FortiSASE Sovereign, which delivers full SASE capabilities entirely on infrastructure the organization controls, with traffic, logs, and telemetry never leaving sovereign environments.
Real enterprise networks rarely fit a single deployment model. Fortinet Unified SASE supports full agent deployments, thin edge setups for branches, agentless access for contractors, and browser isolation for BYOD, along with localized inspection that keeps sensitive or latency sensitive traffic, including AI workloads, close to home while other traffic runs through the global network.
