Someone asks an AI agent to tidy up an old project folder. The agent interprets "tidy up" a little more enthusiastically than intended and moves, renames and overwrites a pile of files across shared libraries. By the time anyone notices, colleagues have already built on top of the changes. Now the question is not who made the mistake. It is how to get back to Monday morning.
A human making that error would take an afternoon to cause the damage. An agent can do it in seconds.
When most of us think about backup, we think about disasters: ransomware, hardware failure, a lost laptop. Those still matter. But automation has added a quieter category of loss, the kind that comes from well-intentioned software doing exactly what it was told, just not what was meant.
This is the gap Veeam is targeting with Intelligent ResOps for Microsoft 365, which is designed to let teams undo the file changes made by AI agents. The idea is easy to grasp: if an agent edits something it should not have, you can return those files to how they looked before it touched them, rather than hunting through version histories by hand.
Many teams assume Microsoft 365 data is automatically protected against every kind of loss. In reality, the responsibility for your data, and for being able to recover it, still sits with your organization. The more agents and automations you invite into the environment, the more that distinction matters.
For companies in Indonesia, this also touches compliance. Under UU PDP, losing or corrupting personal data may be something you have to explain, so restoring it quickly is part of showing that you took reasonable care.
A good way to test yourself is to run a drill. Pick a shared folder, simulate a bad bulk change, and time how long it takes your team to recover cleanly. The number you get is your real recovery capability.
Perkom and Veeam focus on that second step, recovery. Veeam keeps Microsoft 365 data in a backup you control, covering Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams, and Intelligent ResOps extends this to changes made by AI agents so affected files can be returned to their earlier state.
Backup only counts if it works on the day, so Perkom also runs a recovery drill with your team and measures how long a real restore takes. If you are about to give an AI agent more access, that drill is a sensible thing to do first. It is a small investment that can turn a wrong instruction into a few minutes of cleanup.
