Indonesia's First Ever Comprehensive Law on Data Privacy

Jakarta, 06 June 2023, The passing of Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection on October 17, 2022, poses a challenge for several Indonesian industry sectors to proactively implement measures to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and avoid potential penalties.

The seminar with the theme "Indonesia's First-Ever Comprehensive Law on Data Privacy", which was attended by several Indonesian financial services, banking, and insurance sectors, was based on the development of Indonesia's digital economy, whose growth potential is still hampered by the many cases of data leakage.

"In the increasingly connected digital era, the protection of personal data has become very important. By adopting a personal data protection program and complying with privacy laws, we can build trust with customers, maintain the organization's reputation, and ensure the necessary legal compliance" said Hana Abriansyah, Founder and Managing Partner of Cisometric.

Furthermore, Hana added that the solution to achieving compliance with personal data protection laws needs to start with an understanding of the importance of data privacy and the consequences of non-compliance with applicable privacy laws in Indonesia.

"Organizations should follow important steps on this journey, including understanding the type of data collected and how it is used. It is also important to conduct a data protection impact assessment (PIA) and involve third parties in the management of personal data."

In order for the implementation of PDP rules to meet the requirements and run optimally, PT Perkom Indah Murni in collaboration with IBM Indonesia, a software and hardware company introduced IBM Guardium as a robust data security solution that helps organizations address modern threats while maintaining compliance with data privacy regulations.

"Guardium enables businesses in the financial services sector to implement best practices in data security, ensuring the protection of sensitive information and reducing the risk of unauthorized access or breaches. With Guardium, organizations can address the complexities of data privacy, align with regulations, and effectively protect their valuable data" said Indra P Rusli, Brand Technical Specialist IBM Indonesia."

Thus, the presence of the solution will play a role in helping monitor database activity from various data sources with one integrated and real-time reporting system with the IBM Guardium solution.
